Mua Cave (Hang Mua) | Viewpoint, stairs & things to see

Mua Cave (also called Hang Mua) is the dramatic limestone hill known for its winding 500-step staircase and sweeping panoramas of Tam Coc’s rice fields. It sits within the wider Mua Cave complex, a scenic area visited as part of Ninh Binh day trips. You’ll visit Mua Cave after exploring the water route (Trang An or Tam Coc) and cultural sites like Hoa Lu or Bai Dinh Pagoda, depending on your chosen tour.

Where is it located?

Mua Cave is in northern Ninh Binh, a short 10–15 minutes from Trang An, Tam Coc, and Hoa Lu. All day tours include transfers directly to the base of the viewpoint.

How to access?

Entry to Mua Cave is included in all Ninh Binh day tours from Hanoi. You don’t need a separate ticket. You’ll reach the staircase after a short walk through a garden-style courtyard.

Things to know before booking Mua Cave tickets

  • Entry is already included in all three tour types in the Ninh Binh assortment (Trang An tour, Tam Coc tour, and Best of Ninh Binh).

  • The viewpoint has separate peaks: the dragon viewpoint and the temple viewpoint. Both are accessible on the same staircase path.
  • The total time at Mua Cave is usually 60–90 minutes, depending on your tour schedule.
  • There is no separate ticketing window here; your tour guide handles entry.

Stone stairway to Ngoa Long Peak

The climb begins with broad stone steps that grow steeper as you near the ridge. At the top, the path splits toward either the dragon viewpoint or the pagoda. Along the way, shifting views of Tam Coc’s river, rice fields, and limestone cliffs appear, making the ascent increasingly scenic.

Dragon viewpoint (Lying Dragon Peak)

This ridge is marked by a carved stone dragon that winds across the summit. From here, you can look over Tam Coc’s rice valley and the surrounding limestone towers. It’s the most photographed side of the peak, known for wide, dramatic views that draw more visitors throughout the day.

Mountaintop pagoda viewpoint

A quieter option, this viewpoint features a small stone pagoda on a rocky ledge. It faces Trang An’s forested mountains, and on clear days, you may see Bai Dinh Pagoda’s distant stupa. The area feels calm and offers a peaceful pause before or after exploring the ridge.

Lower courtyard & garden

Before the climb, you’ll walk through a landscaped courtyard with lotus ponds, shaded paths, and small bridges. Many visitors stop for quick photos or to enjoy the quiet atmosphere. It’s a gentle warm-up space that introduces the scenery before you begin the main ascent.
